Vision Implications for Gaming

Visual Impairments Impacts Participation & Performance

People with visual impairments may struggle to complete video games due to barriers and the lack of accessible accommodations that help them fully understand the storyline. This lack of accessibility can diminish their overall gaming experience, reducing motivation to engage in video games as a social activity.

Visual Perception
: Refers to the capacity to comprehend the surrounding environment via the utilization of light within the visible spectrum that is reflected by objects. This can be achieved through various forms of vision, including photopic vision, scotopic vision, color vision, and mesopic vision. This area involves cognitive function.

Visual Acuity: Refers to the ability of the eye to distinguish shapes and the details of objects at a given distance. This is reported as a measure of where you stand when performing a comprehensive eye examination, standing at a recommended distance of 20 feet for both eyes. This is referred to as 20/20 vision, which is deemed normal vision. For example, having 20/100 vision means you must be as close as 20 feet to see what a person with normal vision can see at 100 feet.
